Wordless Music Orchestra
Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield
October 16, 2014

World Premiere Arrangement

The English composer Mike Oldfield recorded his debut album, Tubular Bells, in 1973, when he was 19 years old: an ambitious, almost symphonic set of variations on a theme, replete with good cheer and droll British wit. Forty years later, at the invitation of WNYC radio host John Schaefer, the Wordless Music Orchestra will perform a world premiere arrangement of this seminal work, re-imagined and led by guitaristGrey Mcmurray, including longtime orchestra regulars and friends Clarice Jensen (ACME, Ra Ra Riot), Caleb Burhans (Alarm Will Sound, itsnotyouitsme), Chris Morrissey (Sara Bareilles, Andrew Bird), Olga Bell (Dirty Projectors), Justin Carroll (Glen Hansard, Iron & Wine), Aaron Roche (R. Stevie Moore, Psychic Temple), and Qasim Naqvi (Dawn of Midi). This performance will take place on Thursday, October 16 at the Winter Garden at Brookfield Place, and is fully free (no tickets required).
