Beasts of the Southern Wild
Screening + live film score Wordless Music Orchestra & Lost Bayou Ramblers
January 23-24, 2015

Director Benh Zeitlin‘s magical realist fable set outside New Orleans, “a passionate and unruly explosion of Americana,” (The New York Times) is the most celebrated indie film of the decade, winning countless awards and four Oscar nominations including Best Picture. The score, by Zeitlin and Dan Romer, is a grandly moving suite of music performed live here by the 25-piece Wordless Music Orchestra to a new music-less print of the film created specially for the project. This rare event has only happened once before in New York, but the score has taken on a life of its own–excerpts were performed by the LA Philharmonic in 2014 at the Hollywood Bowl under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel, and the live score was performed to the film the Barbican Arts Centre in London in July.

These two shows, the only NYC performances of the season, will also feature the exceptional Lost Bayou Ramblers, who are on the film soundtrack and will appear as part of this project with Wordless Music for the first time.
